Desparate Metro Reds try to deal for a forward
March 17, 2006

With the season two weeks away, the Metro Reds brass is getting desperate. With 38-year-old Youri Djorkaeff the only proven forward left on the roster after the trade of Ante Razov, the Reds are scrambling to find a striker. With all four senior international slots filled at this point, the search has proven to be more difficult than expected.

MetroFanatic has learned that the Reds have been talking to Colorado about a trade for one of their forwards. The Rapids have former Metro Cornell Glen, acquired from Columbus in the offseason, has not impressed and could be on his way out of Denver. But the New York Reds' real interest is in Jean-Philipe Peguero, a Fernando Clavijo favorite who would count as a foreigner, meaning the Reds would have to wait for Amado Guevara to get his green card for this trade to happen. But the more abtainable target could be... Clint Mathis, whose return was subject of rumors earlier this offseason. And with Tony Meola and Steve Jolley already back in the fold, doesn't that make sense? Alexi Lalas did say that he likes a circus. The Reds have supposedly been dangling a first round pick and/or Mark Lisi to Colorado.

Another interesting point on the striker situation is the continued absense of Abbe Ibrahim. It looks like, a few weeks ago Abbe was told to find himself a new team. How things have changed since then! The desparate Reds now want Ibrahim in their camp.

Maybe they should have not traded Ante Razov after all?
