The road to the men?s under-21 football tournament at the 2006 Central American & Caribbean (CAC) Games in Cartagena, Colombia began on Wednesday with Caribbean and Central American qualification in the Netherlands Antilles and Guatemala, respectively.
The host Netherlands Antilles (1-0-0, 3 Points) began the Caribbean Group 3 with an 8:0 victory over US Virgin Islands (0-1-0, 0 Points) at the Stadion Ergilio Hato in Willemstad, Curcaco. Ashar Bernardus scored four times, while Pheadrick Baromeo, Ashar Bernardus, Kenneth Kunst and Michael Rijna each added a goal for the Netherlands Antilles in the victory.
The Caribbean Group 3 continues at the Stadion Ergilio Hato as US Virgin Islands meets St. Lucia on 31 March. The group concludes on 2 April in Willemstad as Netherlands Antilles host St. Lucia.
The Group 3 Winner will join the victors from the other four Caribbean Groups in the CAC Games from 16-29 July.
Elsewhere on Wednesday, Costa Rica played to a scoreless draw against the host Guatemala in the first-leg of the Central American Qualification Series 1 at the Estadio Carlos Salazar Hijo in Mazatenango. The return-leg is scheduled for the 12 April at the Estadio Ricardo Saprissa in San José, Costa Rica. The four winners of the Central American home-and-away series will progress along with the five Caribbean teams to the CAC Games, where they will be joined by the U-21 teams of Mexico, Venezuela and the host, Colombia.
