NY Red Bulls reserves with an INSPIRED WIN PERFORMANCE over New England Revolutions reserves. Thiago Martins scores winner for Red Bulls Reserves.
April 9, 2006

A dominant performance by Thiago Martins powered the Red Bull Reserves to a 3-2 win over New England Sunday morning.

Maybe he was still on Cloud Nine after hugging his idol Pele Friday night, or perhaps he is looking to make his case for the starting XI. Whatever the case, Thiago Martins was impressive Sunday morning in a 3-2 win over the New England Revolution in the Red Bulls' Reserve League win at Giants Stadium.

Martins set up two goals and then scored the game-winner in the 86th minute.

Jordan Cila fired home a pass from Martins for a goal from 25 yards out in the 23rd minute to give the Red Bulls a 1-0 lead. That lead doubled in the 58th minute when Martins was taken down by goalkeeper Doug Warren in the penalty box and Mike Magee converted the penalty kick.

But the Revolution came roaring back on goals by Willie Simms and second half substitute T.J. Tomasso to tie the score in the 83rd minute.

Three minutes later Martins headed in the winner, getting on the end of a Magee cross and Jon Conway made a point-blank save of a Simms shot in stoppage time to secure the victory.
