Malden resident Martine Etienne is among the finalists for the fifth annual Stars Over Boston talent competition.

A spiritual/power ballad singer, Etienne will compete against 10 other musicians for a guaranteed spot on the Emmy Award winning TV show Community Auditions and $500.00 toward their favorite charity on Sept. 21 at Boston’s Calderwood Pavilion at the BCA.

“Born and raised in Haiti, this mother of two…will blow you away when she sings to you in her native Creole,” said a release from Boston Women in Media & Entertainment.

In the release, Etienne described singing as a lifelong activity.

"Growing up, I used to stand on the porch and sing hymns at night in Haiti,” she said. “All of my neighbors would listen from inside their houses. When I would stop, the neighbors would poke their heads out the windows and say ‘keep on singing Martine.’”

One of her sons is autistic, and she will sing for Autism Speaks in his honor. She also recently auditioned for The Voice.

Hosted by WCVB NewsCenter 5 Anchor Liz Brunner, the competition finals will feature 11 amateur singers, aged 18-60, who hail from all over Massachusetts. Their musical styles range from Usher to Conway Twitty to Adele.

The celebrity judges for the evening will include: Legendary arts & entertainment critic, Joyce Kulhawik; Magic 106.7 personality and singer, Candy O’Terry; Comedian & entertainer Tom Doyle of the Loren & Wally Show on 105.7 WROR & lovable “man about town” Hank Morse of WROR, Country 102.5 and 96.9 Boston Talks.

The evening is presented in partnership with Connecticut School of Broadcasting & Community Auditions.

The evening will also feature performances by the inspirational A Cappella group made up of cancer survivors, Voices of Hope, critically acclaimed vocalist Amanda Carr and last year's Grand Champion of Stars Over Boston: Alaycia White.
