GOAL SPREE IN CFU FUTSAL TOURNAMENT
Apr 05, 2008 at 01:27 AM
The second match day of the CFU Futsal Tournament saw an influx of goals as
Haiti dispensed with Guyana by 12 goals to 2 and Suriname crushed Puerto Rico, 15 goals to 3.
In the first match, Haiti went up against a confident Guyanese team who came to the day's game with a win under their belt. The Haitians controlled the 1st period, scoring 8 of their 12 goals and allowing Guyana the opportunity to respond only once. While the possession was more level in the 2nd period, the Haitians converted four more opportunities at goal before the Guyanese put their second of the night in the net, just seconds before final time.
In the Group A match, an experienced Suriname team defeated Puerto Rico easily in another fast-paced game. It was a poignant moment for the Surinamese men as they mourn the death of 19 persons, killed in a plane crash in Suriname the day before. The lives of at least one former Futsal player and relatives of four current Suriname Futsal team members were taken in the incident.
On Saturday April 5th, Sint Maarten will face Group B leaders Haiti at 2:00 pm and hosts Trinidad and Tobago take on Suriname at 4:00 pm.
