YOUNG BULLS: Exantus, Kassel score in Academy action
Johnny Exantus and Matt Kassel continued to score key goals for the Red Bulls' Under-18 team in U.S. Soccer Developmental Academy play.
Exantus socred in his fifth consecutive game and Kassel and Walter Hines added goals for the Red Bulls in their 3-0 away win over B.W. Gottschee Saturday. Exantus had 10 goals in 15 games through Saturday's action.
On Sunday, Kassel struck for the Red Bulls' lone goal in their 1-1 draw with Albertson S.C.
The Red Bulls' U-18 side remained unbeaten in Academy action with an 11-0-5 record. The only other unbeaten team in the league is the U.S. U-19 National Team.
Their U-16 team was not as fortunate. The Red Bulls dropped a 4-0 decision to Gottschee Saturday and rebounded with a 1-1 draw at Albertson Sunday as Oscar Gonzalez tallied.
In other Red Bulls youth action:
* The U-15 team advanced to the New Jersey State Cup semifinals behind a 3-0 triumph over the South Jersey Barons Red. John Agudelo, Jonathan Gonzalez and Chris Garcia found the back of the net.
* Carter McNeil scored five goals for the U-14 side in a 6-0 victory over the host City Islanders in a Super Y League game. Travis Wantchekon had the other goal. | |
