If you have ever read the Bible, you might run into the story of the ancient Israelites who offended God and wound up in slavery. After atoning for their sins they would then be set free by God and their captors. After a few years, they would quickly forget how they offended God and repeat the same mistakes with more zeal than what they had ever done before. Naturally, they wound up right back into slavery. "Those who forget their history are bound to repeat it."
