ET: Haitian Actor Stars Opposite Mo?Nique In Phat Girlz
Jimmy Jean-Louis strips down in a scene from 'Phat Girlz.'
Hardbeatnews, NEW YORK, N.Y., Tues. Apr. 11, 2006: That sexy, hard bodied man starring opposite Mo'Nique in ?Phat Girlz,? the movie now in theaters in the U.S., is none other than Haitian-born actor Jimmy Jean-Louis.
Jean-Louis, who has starred in other hits like ?Monster-In-Law? and ?Tears Of The Sun,? as well as in several television roles, plays Tundae, a Nigerian doctor, who thinks Mo?Nique is very sexy since in his culture, bigger is better.
Jean-Louis, in a recent interview with the Haitian Times, says ?? the prospect of playing a smart African, who?s elegant (and) a doctor,? is what attracted him to the role. Plus he told the paper the movie?s emphasis on weight discrimination reminds him of another kind of discrimination that he experienced as a Haitian migrant to France.
Phat Girlz is the story of Jazmin Biltmore, (Mo?Nique), a plus-size, smart-mouthed aspiring fashion designer, obsessed with her weight and struggling to find love and acceptance in a world full of "hot bodied" babes.
The movie marks the feature directorial and screenwriting debut of Nigerian Nnegest Likke and is produced by Bobby Newmyer and executive produced by Steven Imes and Mo'Nique. Phat Girlz, released on April 7, is now playing. It was shot on location in Palm Springs, Los Angeles and New York. ? Hardbeatnews.com
