Whether the movie will thwart Bush reelection is not sure. Three months after its release, it is almost something of the past. It does not seem to make a dent.
But no matter what camp you stand in, you ought to see Fahrenheit 911, the second documentary that ever made it to the Palme d?Or at Cannes.
Michael Moore, whose stated purpose is to help in the anti-Bush effort, uses a string of
TV footage and private interviews to prove his point: Bush is incompetent, corrupt, and solely motivated by greed.
To who does not follow the news, he may make a stunning revelation. To anyone else, some parts of the movies will come out as hyped, definitely over the top. For example the war in Afghanistan could not have been launched solely on the basis of an oil pipeline. It is just not believable with the profile of Sep.11 looming in the background.
To this date, Fahrenheit 911 has made 117.5 million dollars at the box office. Not bad at all for a war movie that did not have to use Tom Hanks.
I did not see in the movie the artistic qualities that warrant a Palme d?Or. However, as a second voice, one different from the conservative Fox News and Rush Limbaugh, Michael Moore needs to be heard. The author of Bowling for Colombine, once again, has made a powerful case against special interests.
