Volleyball - Mercy's Mariola St. Fleur (Haiti) Named ECC Volleyball Pre-season Player of the Year

DOBBS FERRY, NY - Mercy College's Mariola St. Fleur (Port-au-Prince, Haiti) has been selected as the 2006 East Coast Conference (ECC) Women's Volleyball Pre-season Player of the Year and her squad (Flyers) has been tabbed for a third place finish in 2006 according to a vote by the league's head coaches.

St. Fleur, a senior outside hitter, was a Second Team All-Conference selection in 2005, helping Mercy to a second straight trip to the NCAA Tournament, a 20-12 overall record and 7-2 regular season league mark. She led the Flyers by averaging 3.45 kills per game to go with a .221 hitting percentage. St. Fleur also added 42 service aces, 45 total blocks, and 2.28 digs per game. In Mercy's first match of the 2006 season on Wednesday night at Southern Connecticut State, she posted eight kills and three blocks.

Ahead of Mercy in the pre-season poll is defending conference champion Dowling at the top and NYIT at number two. The Flyers advanced to last year's conference championship match versus Dowling, falling 3-1. The Flyers then received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament for a second straight year. They took on St. Rose in the Northeast Regional, dropping a 3-0 decision.

Mercy (0-1) will be back in action again next weekend, participating in a tournament hosted by Bryant University on Friday, September 8, and Saturday, September 9.
