University of Bridgeport freshman forward Gilbert Bayonne (Amityville, NY/ St. John the Baptist) was named as the East Coast Conference (ECC) Co-Rookie of the Week, as announced by the conference Monday afternoon.
Bayonne scored the decisive game-winning-goal in Bridgeport?s 3-1 home-opening victory over Kutztown University on Sept. 9. His goal came on a header off a free kick. This is the freshman phenom?s first collegiate goal.
Gilbert is the nephew 1974 World Cup Haitian National team soccer player, Pierre Bayonne.
The Purple Knights (1-4) host East Stroudsburg, Wednesday, Sept. 13 in Seaside Park in Bridgeport, Conn. with kick-off at 3 pm.
