Danny Glover set to make directorial film debut on Haitian ?Toussaint L'Ouverture?
Danny Glover set to make directorial film debut on Haitian Revolution slave leader ?Toussaint L'Ouverture?
SEPTEMBER 14, 2006 - 7:49 PM
Danny Glover, is set to make his directorial debut on ?Toussaint,? an action epic that will star Wesley Snipes, Don Cheadle and Angela Bassett and is based on the 1791-1804 successful slave uprising in Haiti. Production is set to begin latter this year in South Africa.
The script by Joslyn Barnes and Vijay Balakrishnan, centers on Haitian revolution hero Toussaint L?Ouverture, who led one of the few successful slave uprisings in history. The slaves defeated French, Spanish and British armies and established the first independent black republic, naming Louverture president for life. He was captured and imprisoned by the French and died a year later.
No offences to Wesley Snipes, Why can Jimmy Jean-Louis be the Lead actor .... He's Haitian, He speaks Creole (our Native Language) and He's a great Actor ....
Our Community needs to get in touch with Danny Glover and Let him know what we think with Email, Letters, Phone calls and protest ....
Jimmy Jean-Louis for the epic movie about the most important moment in Haitian and African history ...
An actor answers a casting call for a movie then go for an audition, his native background is not one of the criteria (haitian/third world mentality?) but his experience for such and such character he?s auditing for; also previous exposures and contacts are very important. Morlon Brando (Dutch, Irish, German, and English stock) and James Caan were great in the God Father! What else can I say.
Look at Wesley Snipes, doesn't he look like Toussaint L'Ouverture to you? lol
On a serious note, we can't be too demanding...this is a great step by having our history portray in Hollywood. I support Danny's judgement on the casting. Not that I'm saying Jimmy is not talented, but it's also a commercial call. I've learned about Jimmy here on Haitiwebs.com (from Spoonie). Wesly is internationally known and locally respected. I firmly believe that Danny and the Cast will represent not just Haitian History, but Black History the best and right way.
I don't think protest is needed Bana... lets wait and see how Danny and the cast represent us.
Tout sa pa bezwen. Se trop bone, nap fe moun nan dekouraje. If you have access to Danny's e-mail I would write to command him for choosing Toussaint L'Ouverture= half human, half amazing man, who put the extra in extraordinary.
This is the most important individual in our History & Black History .....
it needs to be done correctly and true to our native history ... because the world is going to see it
Look at Malcolm X ... When a white directory was about to do the most important epic in black history ... Spike Lee step in an complaint that only a black director is capable of directing the movie about Malcolm X .....
I really don't want our community to wait ... I think we should stay involve right away before something is produce to our dissatisfactory
Wesley Snipes is a big box office name and sells and that's the name of the game.
Who will go and see a movie featuring Jimmy Jean-Louis ?
Let us put emotions on the side. A movie with Snipes will generate better publicity for Haiti.
Amen! Amen! That's what I was trying to write, and you express it better.
Bana,
Lets just say, we really want to go to the root with a Haitian Actor. Jimmy wouldn't make the cut. And even though I'm infatuating with Reginald Lubin (I think he is HOT), Smoye Noisy, along with the other known Haitian Actors... even them wouldn't make the cut. Why???? because they don't speak Creole in their movies... they only use the language to crack jokes in the story line.
Nou bezwen wete bwa nan ge nou anvan nou we ti pousye nan ge yon lot.
