Spoonie, you are not missing much. It's salted fish eggs, the best one (more expensive one) are from the beluga sturgeon, a bottom feeding fish, then you have the more affordable ones made of Salmon eggs. I've tried both kind, and I still did not develop a taste for it. I've found it quite nasty, I guess you have to develop a taste for it. I couldn't do that, and I am someone who will eat almost anyhting, ANYTHING Spoonie.

Ti Cam, I had it at a reception given by a vendor of the Company where I work. They served it on crakers, with dill and pink champagne. Like Ambrosia said, the smell is nothing to write about.

?It?s an acquired taste,? we usually say when describing some exotic or so-called ?gourmet? food like caviar, that slimy fish eggs. yokes This is what a gourmet guru had to say: ?One way palates can evolve is if people overcome their psychological barriers to food. Taste is certainly influenced by the foods we were exposed to in our formative years, ?. So as individuals start to ?think outside of their box,? they naturally broaden the scope of their dietary realm.?
Broccoli for example was never cultivated in Haiti, now haitians here and at home eat and cultivate broccoli and is part of our diet.
Likewise you don?t have to acquire a taste for anything you don?t like, food is to be enjoyed. On the other hand, tasting different types of food can be an indefinite pleasure.
