Dominican exporters warn on Free Trades that allay investments
Santo Domingo.- The Exporters Grand Dinner 2006, held this past Tuesday, constituted into a scenario where entrepreneurs asked of authorities to be watchful regarding countries or regions when signing free trade agreements (FTAs).
The president of the Dominican Exporters Association (ADOEXPO), Brache, favored that the country cosign free trade accords with those zones with which the country can trade with competitiveness.
National Industries Association (INCA) president Francisco Garcia considered that the very first free trade treaty should have been signed with Haiti, whereby the country would have been a big winner.
He considered that the FTA with the United States is advantageous because it offers the country access to a great market, but such an accord with Taiwan would no be as fortunate, because many investors would be discouraged if Taiwanese products were to enter with duty charges.
He also suggested a similar cautionary approach to accords with Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela. ?What would the incentives be for industrialists in those countries, if give them access to our market, without the need for them to move from their countries?? pondered Garcia.
