(1) In 1998, at the airport in Jerusalem, I was held as a possible terrorist suspect, by the Mossad (Israeli secret services), for several hours. The reason: I had just come from the Palestinian territories. That was way before terrorism became a local news item in the U.S.
(2) In 1996, I refused to ?answer any further questions? when the British station security agents would not accept my replies on why I was entering England without one single piece of luggage, beside my passport, my tooth brush, and my camera.
(3) In 2000, I lost my ticket, and almost got stranded in Bangkok.
(4) In August 2002, I escaped in extremis a kidnapping attempt, in Johannesburg, South Africa.
(5) In August 2000, my camera gave up on me in Mombassa, Kenya, after seven years of loyal services. It was, thank God, the last day of my trip.
(6) I fell in love with a sweet and beautiful girl, Maria, in a club in Hong Kong. For several hours, I paid for all the drinks she cared to have. Later, I found out they all ended up into a flower pot behind my left shoulder. My final bill amounted to more than $200. That was in May of 2000.
(7) In 2001, my camera bag, lenses and films were stolen in Bahia on the last day of carnaval.
(8) In 2002, at the airport in Sidney, I fell asleep at the gate. The plane to Oakland (New Zealand) left, while I was loudly snoring under the puzzled and disconcerted watch of the gate agents who did not know if they were to wake me up!
