Lim Swee Choo?s ?How? Tell Me How? is one of the most beautiful pieces I have read thus far relating sports to happiness and collective self-esteem of a whole nation.
Swee made a resounding plea on behalf of the English people and those who seemed to have lost trust in the British team. Besides all moving and sympathetic considerations, it is also fair to mention that this was not a stolen victory. The Britons have proven their technical and physical superiority over the South Americans. Their tenacity and their relentless self-reliability have paid off.
I am not a fan of the English team but I am thankful to them for their rich sense of creativity and their passion for a sport they have created.
I would like to take this opportunity to recognize the progress made in Africa. The underachievement of this continent used to be the talks of the towns. It seems that the African soccer teams have reached the performance level of the Europeans who have dominated this sport along with the two largest South American countries.
This progress seems to redefine the World Cup and create a sort of uncertainty in terms of who will be the next world champion. This is outstandingly striking.
It is unquestionable that the Asian teams will be the thrills of the 2006 World Cup as the Japanese empire already started that upward trend.
May God bless Soccer forever and ever.
