Echoes from the Cup

Two young Koreans in their 20s died of heart attacks during the game between Korea and Italy. Sudden death during soccer games is common occurrence. Often due to extreme heat and severe stress-induced hypertension and tachycardia, it happens mostly in older people, but not really in the younger crowd. These deaths are another first in this World Cup.
????????..
White House spokesperson, Scott McGellan, in his daily briefing, said that GW Bush and Senegal president?s Abdoulaye Wade had a long conversation the other day.
He added: ?The U.S. and Senegal, as everybody may be aware are in the quarterfinals of the World Cup, and the two presidents said that they look forward to the teams possibly meeting in the June 30 final.?
(Mr. Presidents, who are you kidding?)
?????????..
Ira Berkow, sport writer for New Jersey Star Ledger, gives his opinion on soccer and soccer fans:
??Look Ma, no hands? somehow does not do it for the American sport enthusiast. And it is one thing for the scoring in soccer to be minimal, but when they produce a goal, it is as if they have overthrown a despot. They go berserk, ripping off their clothes, shrieking around the stadium, and then, for good measure, piling on top of one another. And this is only halfway through the first half.
Baseball, football, basketball are in our blood, the way soccer is for the most of the world. We need a sport transfusion to change??
(You see; some will never get it.)
???????????..
A man had great tickets for the World Cup final. As he sits down, another man comes over and asks if anyone is sitting in the seat next to him.
"No," he says. "The seat is empty."
"This is incredible!" said the man. "Who in their right mind would have a seat like this for the World Cup Final, the biggest sporting event in the world and not use it?"
He says, "Well, actually, the seat belongs to me. My wife was supposed to come with me, but she passed away. This is the first World Cup Final we haven't been to together since we got married."
"Oh ... I'm sorry to hear that. That's terrible. But couldn't you find someone else - a friend or relative, or even a neighbor to take the seat?"
The man shakes his head. "No they're all at the funeral."
(We must laugh today; tomorrow will be a sad day for this hemisphere, for Brazil will lose to England.)
