In exactly four months, it will be a Thursday, eleven (11) men, all
eleven, heroes by their faith, will land on the sacred soil of
Salvador da Bahia, the Afro capital of Brazil.
It will be sunny and hot (79 F) as compared to the US Eastern coast
(snowy, 22 F).
A few steps outside the immigration area, and they will feel the hot
air of carnaval. Men and women in shorts, colored T-shirts, sun
glasses, baseball caps. An entire population, ready to parteeeee...
Hundreds of thousands, like the pilgrims of the 2003 Expedition, will
also make the trip, from everywhere in South America, from Europe,
from as far as Israel.
The streets of Salvador will be filled with sound bytes of axe music.
The Afro Latin Festival will be on. On for a week, for a full weeek
of street dancing, of revelery, of a parade of beautiful faces and
perfect bodies.
For a week, for a full week, Paradise will change address... And the
only painful thought will be that the party will end, some time.
In four months: Bahia 2003. The Expedition, the strongest ever (11
commandos of the Special Forces), is ready. Shine or snow...
Terrorism or not. War or peace. The Expedition will take place.
A nation waits and salutes their courage and dedication.
Four more months, four more months....
