Ministry auctioning diamond ring left from broken engagement for Haitian Project.
A Roman Catholic mission may get the silver lining from someone?s cloudy circumstances.
Local staffers of The Haitian Project, which operates a free boarding school for poor children in Haiti, have received an unusual donation: a diamond ring left over from a broken engagement.
The ring, which will go to the best offer, is a 1.06-carat marquise. It?s 5.5 millimeters wide and 9.96 millimeters long. It was appraised at $8,500 in 1992.
Proceeds from the sale will be used for The Haitian Project?s ongoing efforts to install solar panels at the school.
The ring is locked in a safe off the project?s premises, but if you are interested in seeing it, staffers may be able to e-mail you a photo.
