Wyclef Jean officially Haiti's roving ambassador, He Picks Up Diplomatic Passport Yesterday
Singer Wyclef Jean is among the artists slated for the kick-off concerts.
NEW YORK, NY, Fri. Oct. 19, 2007: When Hip-Hop singer Wyclef Jean travels now, he can simply flash his diplomatic passport.
The Haitian-born son of a preacher man yesterday received his red passport from Haiti's ambassador to the United States, Raymond Joseph. Joseph is also Jean's uncle. Dozens of fans were on hand to witness the honor.
The passport handing over ceremony came months after Jean was named Haiti's roving ambassador by the country's President, Rene Preval.
In commenting on the honor, Jean insisted that he'll never embarrass his country. But he also used the moment to chide the NYPD, telling them to be on notice as he is now officially a diplomat.
Fans also got a taste of Jean's new album, ‘Carnival Vol. II Memoirs of an Immigrant," which hits stores on Dec. 4th.
