Community Forum on Haitian Constitution
The American Friends Service Committee (AFSC)’s
Haitian-American Community Dialogue*
in collaboration with FARHE**
Invites members of the Haitian community to a community forum titled
The Haitian Constitution 20 Years Later; Where Are We?
Saturday March 24, 2007 from 1:30 to 6:30 pm
At the Holy Cross Church Meeting Room

Guest Speaker: Dr. Claude Moise***
Additional speakers: Emmanuel Coffy from FARHE and others to be confirmed
This conference will be an opportunity for community members to learn about the constitution as a necessary tool for democratic change in Haiti and to examine the impact of its weaknesses. It will also touch upon the way the constitution addresses the diaspora question and the strategic steps the diaspora community could take to positively influence democratic change in Haiti .

*** Dr. Claude Moise is a historian and a speaker; the author of several books, including, Constitutions and Power Struggles in Haiti (2 volumes), From the American Occupation to the Duvalier Regime, To Rethink Haiti : Greatness and Misery of a Democratic Movement, The National Project of Toussaint Louverture. He has lived many years in Canada, was one of the organizers of the National Committee of Remembrance of the Bicentenary of the Haitian Independence in 2004, and was recently called by the then president-elect, René Préval to submit to the new Haitian parliament a proposition of Constitutional Reform.
