Just because i think that creole should be the official language of Haiti, doesn't mean that i'm not an educated person and wanna get rid of french because i can't speak it or feel inferior because of it! uh uh why u saying that girl??
When I see the word HAITIAN i see CREOLE (lol) that's it !!Ok now, i agree with y'all that we should stick with french! after all why not? Creole won't do any good to our country!
but y'all gotta know that Creole is our main language!

| | | Keep both languages Hello all,
I think it is critical for Haiti to keep French as part of its national language. So many Haitians migrate out of the country. How is knowing only Creole going to help them when they travel or move abroad? Also, it was suggested above that all Haitian children learn at least 4 different languages. As this is a nice thought, can we really expect this? They are having difficulties just keeping up with two. I would love to see the education system in Haiti change. There is such a large gap between the classes of people -- some children get to go to good schools, some in bad schools and many not attending school at all. I was so surprised during my last recent trip to Haiti to see that many young children were just ?hanging out? during normal school hours. It was pretty sad. Well, I don?t want to bring anyone down. I still have great hopes for the country and I know that one way for the country to escape many of its hardships is through education.
Peace

| | | Spoonie, now you know I wouldn't do that to you, girl. In case I didn't say it in my message, I wasn't talking about EVERY person who thinks creole should be the only language. I'm just pointing out that there's a number of people who think that way. And, honey, I love my creole. And believe me, if any language is really ours, it's creole. Love it, hate it, it's OURS. Peace, yall | |

| | I vote for Haiti to keep both French and Creole. Also, every Haitian person must make an effort to at least speak both languages fluently. Reading, listening to music, and speaking are great ways to make this possible.

| | Senior Member | | | | WHAT DIFFERENCE does it make? It doesn't matter if we only use Creole because most of the haitian officials would still try to speak french in an interview thinking they know it all. Lets face it! We have both French and Creole language, and 50 % of the haitian people master the Creole only and the other 50% is separate in two. There is 35% who read, write and understand French, and maybe speak French a little and and they can also read, write, understand and are comfortable with Creole. And then there is the last 15% who read, write, speak French and they act like they are not comfortable with Creole. We have both language and I agree we should keep both, Except we have to be true to ourselves and recognize like SPOONIE said Creole is still the main language for HAITIAN

| | | I'll have to agree with all of you. I think Haiti should have both languages. I think the children should be taught in both as well, and have them decided once they are old enough which they prefer or which fits them best (depending on if they stay in the country or not). I don't think one is better then the other. Also, let's keep in mind that every country goes through what "is the proper language" the US is dealing with Ebonics and American English (b/c it's different then British English). Let us not forget that language is a form of Art and a means of communicating with one another. | |
