I feel like being called out Eddy and I am going to shoot straight. Considering the capital importance of this discussion, it does not matter where one posts from. To answer your question, I am at school in Salt Lake City, Utah and working in the University Healthcare System. My idea of contributing to my homeland is not to remain here, eating dead chicken with sorrow rice and collecting adipose tissue. My plan is now to get as much experience possible in the field. When the time comes, nothing can hold me and should Haiti be in fire and blood, I will go there.
I am the youngest of many brothers and I am the only one here as they are already in Haiti.
If you want to know what is real, not long ago ,we were all and our father included,in the mids of an hurricane in the South East of the country here carrying rocks to erect an temporary bridge and there helping some poor people out of their flooded houses;in some other towns, giving immunization shots or showing the town's mayor about how to use sand bags for future cases as such.
Such questions as to where somebody is while making a suggestion only serve to impede any progressive discussion we can hold by robing us of what little substance it already has. My friend, when I say I am ready, I know what I mean but I am not sending anyone who is here to get the experience needed for the help our country deserves from its children. Anyone who goes back without it might as well swell the number of Zenglindos in the country.

Ylsen29,
As my answer to your post clearly stated, I was not attempting to discredit your position! If it came out that way, I appologize! And furthermore I applaud your drive and determintation and wish you nothing but the best in your future endeavors.
My point was that your earlier post seemed to be suggesting that the only possible way we can help is by getting on the next plane. While that would be ideal with all the ingredients in place for each of us to do so, it is probably unrealistic for most of us! This thread was started with one goal, to explore the possibillities of changing the economic situation in Haiti, not in 50 or 100 years, but today using the resources that we now possess. And, overtime we have come a long way and I truly feel that something special may come out of this. We have had quite a few ideas, some good, others questionable, but the main thing is that we are talking and that is the first step towards getting anywhere!

No Eddy, you did not have to appologyze. I can take it for I am used to it. and unlike many, I can say that I have made my mark on the country and should I die today, that mark would endure up to a decade after. When you immunize a person against tetanus, that immunity lasts a good ten years.
Whenever we pack our bags, we always carry thousands of MMR, TDap and other shots. Some people do not see the effort but they only imply that we may be getting ready to run for some office like congress or senate and they get freaky and try to accuse you with anything in order to stop you while their kids are suffering.
Really no one is to appologyze to anyone or for anything in exchanging ideas to better a cause such as ours. As it was said earlier, as we are eager to contribute to the discussions, we are going to make mistakes and giving silly, crazy or excellent ideas while none will really be silly in Haiti's case.
There has always been that sense with Haitians, some only feel rich when they see someone else in need. We should also take care of our own here in order to help Haiti. We have many Haitians who are jobless. we could give a lead to them or hire them if we are in a position to do so. Helping an Haitian anywhere is the same as helping Haitians everywhere thus helping Haiti itself.
If all in the diaspora have a job, arrangements could be made for a 2 or 4% of their weekly paycheck to be taken off before taxes to a cause of their choice. They won't even feel the deductions.
Since we want to HELP in the NOW, we could encourage our people to leave Port-au-Prince and return to their lands so Haiti can start poducing and stop swallowing all the crap out of the Dominican Republic. Haiti does not produce anything. from salt, pepper to whores, we get everything from them.

Gentlemen,
Where is this getting us? The only thing that it is demonstrating is that it shows what is consistent with us, the fact that once we have a side bar, it is hard to get back to the original premise. The original premise was, what can we do as Haitians to change the economic situation in Haiti? Lets remove our feelings, and assumptions and get back to listing the concrete possibilities for change. Lets implement a plan that can execute at lease some of these plans, IE buying the rum, and other things. Lets now come up, plan and execute something else.

It is good to contribute, but instead of giving out fish, lets implement ways for them to fish. Example, supplying school books like creole/English and getting them to learn it will assist with communications barriers that some may face. Whether it be with the missionaries who go to help in Haiti so now those that they are helping will be able to communicate or the engineers and other professionals from Haiti who are forced now to do remedial work in the states because of the language barrier.

hi,
with the wikimedia foundation, we have started a public dictionary for the haitian creole :
*creole-creole
*english-creole
*french-creole
*spanish-creole
*deutch-creole
these features are being implemented day after day, you can help it become a reference.

Thank you

We are okay! In discussions, it happens that sometimes sides disagree, and there may be misunderstandings, but the main thing as Lei Lei mentioned is to not lose focus! We are back on track! I would venture to say that Ylsen29 and I are on the same page. He has obviously been deeply involved in the cause for a long time now and I command him for that. The main focus here is Haiti and as long as we keep that in mind, we will be just fine!
