WWith the European conquest and colonization of the now called Third World,at the beginnings of modern time,a long and shameful stage of whole peoples subjugationand slavery started,which derived socioeconomic destruction and depopulation,particularly of Africa.However,not being the colonizers will,the African Culture expanded itself till becoming constitutive part of the cross-cultureidentity of the new peoples as happened in the Carribean,specificallyin CUBA and BREZIL.

One of the peoples target of this genocide,was the YORUBA people,which culture had reached a particular development at the time of the European exploitation began.

For many reasons the Yoruba contribution ,and in general the African one remains,notably despite many adverse circumstances.

This is manifested in many cultural fields,such as music,dance,musical instruments,literature,religion and in the populationbehavior,way of viewing realityand of facing problems.

Worshiping ORISHAS (lWAS) ,in its original wayor in its versions resultant of the intense cross-culture,is of great importance in the differents ppeoples religiosity.

Wrong and prejudiced western ethnocentric criteria caused the African cultural incidence outside its original territories to be underestimated and even wished to be unknown.Nevertheless ,during the last years ,a movement has been verified among religious persons,artists ,academicians,and other sectors to rescue the African cultural valuesand its real meaning,mainly in the peoples where the African Diaspora has been obvious.

The Global Yoruba Congresses have been outstanding in this effort,held in different countries with a high participation of scholars and peoples interested in the African Culture and its derivations all around the World.

Continuing these meetings,the Yoruba Cultural Associationand the Global Yoruba congress Committee,convene religious persons,researchers and interested people to participate in the ""8th Global Congress ORISHAS,2003".TO BE HELD IN hAVANA FROM jULY 7TH TO 13 TH ,2003.
