(The following, plagiarized from a Carnival t-shirt, purports to
distinguish real from fake Trinidadians.)
Real: Reaches fete after 10:00 p.m., and doesn?t leave until sun comes up.
Fake: Asking where are people going after 10:00 p.m.
Real: Eat roti, pelau, souse, pudding, manicou, crab and dumpling, and
crying: ?Better belly buss than good food waste.?
Fake: Eat roti with a knife and fork, and says: ?Manicou? I am eating
nothing like that!?
Real: Walks around with a trailer load of babash, beers, pelau (enough
food to feed the United Nations).
Fake: Walks with both hands swinging to the bar, requests a Bud, and asks
where the next KFC, McDonalds, or Burger King is.
Real: Fetes Carnival Sunday into Jouvert morning, bathes somewhere, and,
with no rest, jumps up Carnival Monday.
Fake: Goes to Dimanche Gras, goes home to get ready for Jouvert, falls
asleep, and never wakes up.
Real: Jumps up Carnival Tuesday from Port of Spain to Saint James, till
Last Lap.
Fake: Sits in the Grand Stand, on Canival Monday and Tuesday, watching mas.
Real: Relax on Maracas Beach on Ash Wednesday, eating bake and shark
Fake: Have also mastered that art!
