I want to stress what are VERY IMPORTANT:

Pay close attention to what he does, what he says,

Whatever choice he makes, have him say the reason.

Have him/her become your friend if possible.

Ask for expect advice, and go back to the old school way to show kids love, don't let the american way influence you.

Also, you have to consider all existant approaches; like the win-win approach, the win-love approach, etc...
