What is Voodoo

Being raised in a catholic faith, I had never given a thought to Voodoo since he is known as the "Devil's Religion" associated with all kind of negativities. Today I have another perception of Voodoo without losing my faith in Christainity. My perception has changed following a class I took in college where I had the opportunity to better understand Voodoo and the role it has played in our history as black people and more precisely as Haitians.
Today, I understand that Voodoo is not only the opposite of Christianity, it is also a part of the heritage leaving by our ancestors. Our ancestors used it in order to keep a bond between them and their homeland (Africa), they used it to have that kind of control over their lives while they were enslaved by the colons. There is report that when they had to be shipped to some other location (other island) away from their family, they used Voodoo or spell to make their master change their mind as a result they stay together. Voodoo is what they used to get their independence.
I also realized that it is OK to know about voodoo it does not make me the child of the devil but it is a new knowledge in my everyday life.

I am so happy you came with that subject
Last semester I was in class of women and religion at the end of the semester the teacher give us a paper in the evolution of women in a religion you want to know. I choose women in the vodoo. I tought it was the best I can do for that moment even I came form a country where that religion is being practiced I did not know anything at all. I grab that moment and learn about it . It was so amazing to read some stuff on that. In that religion women as power as man it is really wonderful it is not like the catolic religion where women cannot be priest or do some stuff. and what surprise me i use to sing some song I did not know it was a voodoo song as: "La sereine la baleine chopo mwen tombe nan lanme..."
"mwne chage kou legba" even you do not practice a religion something it is good to learn what going one in it .
