[Announcer] Rumours of President Rene Preval's death were circulating Tuesday night [11 July].
He appeared in public Wednesday evening for the opening of the Diaspora Forum in Petion-Ville. The president looked strong. He looked healthy.
The head of state, who was speaking at the Karibe Convention Centre in the presence of about 300 delegates from the Diaspora, did not make any comments on the state of his health.
However, there were strong rumours in Port-au-Prince all during the night before about Preval's state of health that was allegedly so serious that his life was [supposedly] in danger.
President Preval presided over two work sessions on Monday and Tuesday on the need to improve the living conditions of lawmakers.
Joseph J. Jasmin, the minister in charge of relations between the government and parliament, said that the head of state and all those who met with him are doing well. However, he did not wish to comment on the rumours that were circulating in the streets.
He said that Prime Minister Jacques Edouard Alexis, Finance Minister Daniel Dorsainvil, and about 20 deputies and senators who took part in these work sessions do not have any health problems.
