Dominican Republic armed forces: security measures have not failed
SANTO DOMINGO.- Armed Forces Minister, Ramon Antonio Aquino Garcia, denied Friday that government?s Citizen Security Plan failed as is asserted by some sectors in the country.
Aquino Garcia described as isolated the last violent deaths that have occurred in the country and related them "to reasons other than the resurgence of delinquency".
More than 20 violent deaths have been registered in the last five days.
"They are isolated cases that in no way constitute the resurgence of delinquency", affirmed the military man, and it added that some of the deaths have been crimes of passion.
The Chief of Police, Bernardo Santana Paez and Aquino Garcia both sustain that criminality in the Dominican Republic is under control.
On the other hand, Aquino Garcia assured that all arms and drug traffic at the Haitian border has been controlled by the Armed Forces.
Aquino Garcia produced these declarations at the end of a mass celebrated by Cardinal Nicholas de Jesus Lopez Rodriguez, in commemoration of San Miguel Arcángel, patron of the Dominican National army.
