US Marines train with Chilean counterparts at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C., Dec. 5 (UPI) -- Marines from Chile are visiting the U.S. Marine Corps base , and training with their U.S. counterparts.
The United State Southern Command Web site reported on Dec. 4 that the 10 Cuerpo de Infanteria de Marina personnel from Vina del Mar, Chile, visited Lejeune's Military Operations in Urban Terrain training facility for a glimpse into the Marines' urban war-fighting techniques as part of their three-week training.
Second Marine Division Division Training Center Cpl. Jason Baer said, "The BUST (basic urban-skills training) course is designed to teach Marines the skills necessary to conduct combat operations inside a city. They go over the things you might encounter in an urban environment, like ambushes, sniper fire and basic patrols."
Urban war-fighting skills are essential for U.S. Marines deploying to Iraq but equally valuable for Chilean Marines preparing to participate in United Nations peacekeeping operations in Haiti
