"It?s an historic moment for the Congress. It?s an historic moment for the women of America.
It is a moment for which we have waited over 200 years. Never losing faith, we waited through the many years of struggle to achieve our rights.
But women weren?t just waiting; women were working. Never losing faith, we worked to redeem the promise of America, that all men and women are created equal.
For our daughters and our granddaughters today we have broken the marble ceiling.
For our daughters and our granddaughters now the sky is the limit. Anything is possible for them."
How many people in America find that concept to be disturbing - even frightening?
How many of those people consider themselves Democrats?
I remember reading that phrase - "for our daughters and our granddaughters" - it was our battle cry in the 60?s.
The sad reality is that some of those granddaughters don?t understand that gift and have thrown it away, thanks to the hard sell of madison avenue.
Thinner is better, buy this, buy that - be attractive - HOW to attract a man. We have gone from an era where women sought self-fulfillment to the old ways of how to please someone else instead of ourselves.
I see Pelosi validating all of us who fought so hard - yet I see young women not participating or interested in politics at all.
We still have much work to do - this is yet another battle, the war is far from over!

And the debate has become so twisted that if a woman DARES suggest such a thought, she?s jumped on from all sides: she?s selfish, she?s cold, she?s a man-hater, she?s a ?single-issue voter?, she?s too ?upper middle class?, she despises stay-at-home moms, etc. etc. ad nauseam.
