A Haitiwebian's journey

This could go in the General Forums, I think. Or my blog... Well, I'll try this spot.
One thing has kept me perplexed: from the amount of traffic that I see that forum readers generate, I find that the ratio of
[ thread replies / thread views ] is overall disproportionately low. I guess there is something I have not grasped yet about this site's members. A lot of quiet reading! A sort of library atmosphere. (And I am somehow thrilled by such suspicious company at the same time.)
On dit "Du choc des idées jaillit la lumière." In that spirit, I would hope that could change. I could think of the contents/quality of the posts, but it's hard to tell if something is considered poor or interesting, when it's mostlty only being read. And new regular user threads are somwhat slow to come by (again compared to traffic).
Furthermore, I was able to comprehend that there is a team that is dedicated to the news (the Articles section). But I haven't seen that much balance eslewhere in the regular user controlled areas. Maybe I need more time to settle and observe better. There may not be such thing as regular users, after all. Maybe I got it all wrong. It may be my new user myth.
Other remarks: When I first really started to browse this site I mostly spent time in the Articles section. I was appealed by its clean cut categories; I knew excatly where I wanted to go. And somehow I did not get the bigger structure of the forum at first glance. But I came to understand that the Articles section was not an open space to post, and then found the other forums where things are not as intuitive. I must dig, look around a bit to make sure I post in the section that best matches the contents of what I want to publish.
Also, during the first hours, I got confused by the point system. Even more so that I was trying to post in the Articles section. The error message did not help me. I thought I had to earn points before I could post anything. And it took me some time again to get to the FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) about the points, since there are different FAQs in different places. I really thought it was a mind game that I had to win somehow to get access to some super member privileges... That one may be another myth.
Anyway, just sharing the most interesting and unique member experience.

Too quiet here!

i kind of agree with you, gnmusic. I find it very quiet here as well. I guess, just like you & me, everyone is probably buzy, trying to get things done before the day is over. Many topics are somewhat very interesting to me though I don't often take the time to reply to them. That definitely needs to be changed. At a certain point, every forum experiences some sort of down time. Maybe, it's just the moment for Haitiwebs.
Thanks for pointing that out.

This has always been the big question mark for me for years now. Sometimes I grow really annoyed, then I discover a lot of members posting in subsections, such as downloads, galleries etc...
We also get a tremendous amount of traffic from foreigners, judging by the amount of emails I get from them, people requesting specific information, people who want us to create similar sites etc... not to mention those members that choose to answer posts by sending in an email to me. Those quickly fill in my trash box, and there are plenty of them.
The reason for two FAQ, is simply we keep to sites. I never shut down old one after upgrading because of the shoutbox, gallery, links (soon to be transferred) and some custom made scripts that will require too much time to adjust.

That is very good observation. My journey on haitiwebs.com has been great. Though I would like to have full participation from every register members, I understand not every register members have access to internet service like some of us do. In addition, many of us have other activities that at time take precedence over another. Haitiwebs.com provides everyone an opportunity to voice their opinions. Everyone is free to find their voices and to advocate for their belief systems. Those who stay away has reasons for staying away; whether every register member participates in online discussion or not those of us who do seems to always express ourselves with grace and serenity. And that my friend is reason enough for me to participate.
Haitiwebs - Great potential, it's a journey worth taking, it's defined by everyone taking responsibility.

Nice to read all of your opinions. I like your openness Haitiwebs. Well, regardless of participation in the discussions, I think the site has a loyal user base that has "great potential" as Karizmua says. I know I am myself up for a significant decrease of my activities here at some point, a question of changing seasons... various life events... unforeseen quadruplets... stuff like that lol
