This could go in the General Forums, I think. Or my blog... Well, I'll try this spot.
One thing has kept me perplexed: from the amount of traffic that I see that forum readers generate, I find that the ratio of
[ thread replies / thread views ] is overall disproportionately low. I guess there is something I have not grasped yet about this site's members. A lot of quiet reading! A sort of library atmosphere. (And I am somehow thrilled by such suspicious company at the same time.)
On dit "Du choc des idées jaillit la lumière." In that spirit, I would hope that could change. I could think of the contents/quality of the posts, but it's hard to tell if something is considered poor or interesting, when it's mostlty only being read. And new
regular user threads are somwhat slow to come by (again compared to traffic).
Furthermore, I was able to comprehend that there is a team that is dedicated to the news (the Articles section). But I haven't seen that much balance eslewhere in the
regular user controlled areas. Maybe I need more time to settle and observe better. There may not be such thing as
regular users, after all. Maybe I got it all wrong. It may be my new user myth.
Other remarks: When I first really started to browse this site I mostly spent time in the Articles section. I was appealed by its clean cut categories; I knew excatly where I wanted to go. And somehow I did not get the bigger structure of the forum at first glance. But I came to understand that the Articles section was not an open space to post, and then found the other forums where things are not as intuitive. I must dig, look around a bit to make sure I post in the section that best matches the contents of what I want to publish.
Also, during the first hours, I got confused by the point system. Even more so that I was trying to post in the Articles section. The error message did not help me. I thought I had to earn points before I could post anything. And it took me some time again to get to the FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) about the points, since there are different FAQs in different places. I really thought it was a mind game that I had to win somehow to get access to some
super member privileges... That one may be another myth.
Anyway, just sharing the most interesting and unique member experience.
