Honduras to host CONCACAF U-17 Final Round Group A this week
2.4.07 - The 2007 CONCACAF Under-17 Final Round Qualification Group A will take place at the Tiburcio Carias Andino Stadium in Tegucigalpa, Honduras from 4-8 April. COMPLETE SCHEDULE
Honduras, which is hosting its third overall CONCACAF U-17 Final Round event, will greet El Salvador, Haiti and the defending FIFA World Champions Mexico in Group A, from which two teams will progress to the FIFA U-17 World Cup Korea Republic 2007 from 18 August - 9 September.
The other three CONCACAF representatives at the FIFA tournament will come from the CONCACAF U-17 Group B as Canada, Costa Rica, Trinidad & Tobago, USA and the hosts Jamaica compete at the National Stadium in Kingston from 28 April - 6 May.

EL SALVADOR: Claimed one of the two Central American berths to the CONCACAF Final Round after hosting and finishing second at the Union Centroamericana de Fútbol (UNCAF) Tournament held in San Salvador … With Jose Norberto Huezo at the helm, the salvadoreños defeated Guatemala, Nicaragua, Panama before losing to the eventual winners Costa Rica during the UNCAF event … El Salvador have competed in 12 CONCACAF Tournaments but have yet to progress to a FIFA U-17 World Cup.
HAITI: Under the direction of Jean-Yves Labaze, Haiti earned their berth to the CONCACAF Final Round as the top Caribbean team in the CFU Youth Cup last year … The Haitians eliminated the Cayman Islands and Saint-Martin in the first round and then defeated Barbados, Surinam and the hosts Trinidad & Tobago in the second round, before losing in the finals to Mexico … Haiti is looking to qualify for their first FIFA U-17 World Cup.
HONDURAS: Coached by Miguel Angel Escalanete, Honduras earned a bye to the CONCACAF Final Round as one of the two group hosts (Group A) … The catrachos have previously staged three CONCACAF Final Rounds and one Central American Preliminary Qualification … Honduras is the only nation to compete in all the CONCACAF U-16 and U-17 Qualifying Tournaments but have yet to progress to the FIFA event.
MEXICO: One of the three North American Zone teams to progress directly to the CONCACAF Final Round … The tricolor have won the most CONCACAF Tournaments (four) and have qualified to eight FIFA U-17 World Cups (second most in CONCACAF) … Mexico have won their last seven CONCACAF Qualification games and also have not conceded a goal in their last 664 minutes … Jesús Ramírez, who led the tricolor to the 2005 FIFA U-17 World Cup title, is once again in charge of the squad.
