Three Babies died has viral outbreak hits Haitian ministry
Posted: 10 August, 2007
Haiti (MNN) ― Bethany Christian Services reports that a severe virus hit their Haiti partner, God's Littlest Angels.
Three babies died, and several staff and visitors fell ill. Haitian radio said it was an epidemic in Haiti, and people are sick all over the country with the same thing. As a result of the virus, GLA realized their equipment in the Intensive Care Unit needed to be replaced.
The team is looking for the following equipment:
1. Small Suction Machine (for respiratory suctioning)
2. Pulse Oximeter - both Neonatal and Adult size
3. Infant Automatic Blood Pressure Machine and cuffs
4. High Flow Oxygen Masks and Medium Flow Oxygen Masks for Infant and Pediatric
At the same time, GLA is growing so fast, they are being forced to expand. They're currently located in the Kenscoff Mountains above Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The warm days and cool nights on the mountain are ideal for infants who are trying to gain weight and stay healthy. They run both a Nursery and a Toddler House.
Land has been purchased in Fort Jacques where a new orphanage will be built for the children. Plans are underway to build an orphanage large enough to house 200 children from newborn to 10 years old.
The new facility will include the orphanage, pharmacy, classrooms, playrooms, guesthouse and volunteer quarters, office and storage complex, and a home for the director's family. GLA is in the process of raising two million U.S. dollars for the new facility.
GLA's purpose is to help the children of Haiti in any way they can and to spread the Word of God to each person served. If you'd like to help, click here.
