news President Preval to visit Jamaica

President Preval to visit Jamaica
Haitian President Rene Preval is scheduled to arrive in the island Wednesday morning on a five day working visit.
He will be accompanied by his Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship, Jean Ronald Clerisme, Tourism Minister, Patrick Delatour, and other senior officials.
President Preval is slated to hold talks with Prime Minister Portia Simpson-Miller following a courtesy call on Governor General, Professor Kenneth Hall.
The Haitian President is also scheduled to meet Opposition Leader Bruce Golding and former Prime Minister PJ Patterson.
Officials from the two countries are slated to hold ministerial talks.
This will be President Preval's first visit to Jamaica since he was re-elected to lead Haiti.
Having served as president from 1996 to 2001, Mr. Preval was declared winner of the presidential elections last February.
His visit to Jamaica marks a new phase of the relationship between the two countries.
The relationship between Kingston and Port-Au-Prince became strained in 2004 after Jamaica allowed ousted President Jean-Bertrand Aristide to stay in the island.
He left Haiti in controversial circumstances, and after spending several months in Jamaica, went into exile in South Africa, where he still lives.
