Airdrome on Dominican-Haitian border to be rebuilt
Santo Domingo.- Dominican Airports Authority director Andres Vanderhorst met with representatives of the southwest border town Jimani, to discuss the need to rebuild the Las Lajas domestic airdrome in Independencia province, which would spur tourism in the frontier with Haiti.
He said that Las Lajas? runway has been inactive for many years and that its reconstruction would bolster business and tourism links between the two countries.
The official said that Haitian entrepreneurs and tourists that enter the country by land and across the border at Jimani could travel by air to Santo Domingo in just 45 minutes.
He affirmed that ongoing construction of tourism infrastructure would undoubtedly spark tourism in the region.
Vanderhorst added that the new domestic airdrome will benefit the zone and that the Border Region Development Law gives tax breaks for 20 years to firms that setup shop in these localities.
