Haitian & Dominican Presidents to meet in March prior to Regional Summit
SANTO DOMINGO. - President Leonel Fernandez will meet in March with the Haiti?s president René Preval, to discuss an extensive bilateral agenda including trade, investment, the environment, health, education, immigration and gun and drug trafficking across the two nations? common border.
Foreign Relations minister Carlos Moral provided the information in the National Palace last night, and revealed that he spoke with Preval yesterday.
The official said that the Haitian leader told him that he will come to the country to talk with Fernandez, and to participate in the antidrug and security summit, to be held with several leaders of the region and the United States taking part.
Morales also revealed that he met in Washington with Organization of American States (O.A.S.) secretary general Jose Manuel Insulza, and with Nations United representative in Haiti, Ermon Mulet.
The official did not specify the day in which the Fernandez-Preval meeting will take place, but affirmed that it will be before March 15, date in which the antidrugs and security summit will be held, with the president of Colombia, and the prime minister of Jamaica also taking part.
In addition to Insulza, Haiti?s Foreign minister Fritz Cineas; the Nations United representative in Haiti, and technicians representing the United States, the European Union and Caricom are expected to participate.
