What's up: Quit whining about your day. Since undercover narcotics cop Brett Hopper got up this morning, he was almost hit by a bus, his apartment was burglarized, he was framed for a murder and smacked around by an internal affairs investigator, his sister was beaten by her boyfriend, his girlfriend was shot to death. Oh, and his neighbors nagged him about all the noise. The really bad news: It's starting all over again.

Cast: Taye Diggs (Kevin Hill) as Brett Hopper; Moon Bloodgood (Eight Below) as his girlfriend Rita Shelten; Meta Golding (JAG) as his sister Jennifer Mathis; Victoria Pratt (Mutant X) as his partner Andrea Battle; Adam Baldwin (The Inside) as internal affairs cop Chad Shelten, Rita's ex-husband.

The scoop: Imagine an incredibly sinister and paranoid version of Groundhog Day and you've got Daybreak. As Brett Hopper keeps living the same day -- the worst one of his life -- over and over again, he's trying to change the ending by playing a kind of chess match with fate: Well, if that move didn't work, I'll try this one. But as one of his tormentors warns Hopper, ''For every decision, there's a consequence,'' and it's usually an unforeseen one. If this all sounds a bit metaphysical, the reality is anything but: The action doesn't so much unfold as explode, and Diggs is mesmerizing as the baffled but determined Hopper.

Secret stuff: Golding is the daughter of a Haitian beauty queen, a former member of Italy's national skating team, and speaks three languages. Bloodgood used to be a dancer with Prince's band. Pratt has a degree in kinesiology. Whatever happened to network bios that said, ``She's a Pisces and her favorite color is blue''?

Did you ever have a day so bad you couldn't wait to get past it? The kind of day nothing goes your way, and everything turns out wrong. What would happen if you couldn't put this day behind you?literally?

Today Detective Brett Hopper will be accused of shooting state attorney Alberto Garza. He will offer his rock solid alibi. He will realize he's been framed. And he will run. Then he will wake up and start the day over again. This time he'll do it differently ? and will continue to ? until he finds out who's framing him, gets his gang witness to court to testify, and until he saves the lives of his loved ones. Hopper has only one advantage in his favor ? he remembers everything he did the "day prior" that didn't work. It's a painful way to learn because he also carries the bruises and battle scars from every mistake-filled day.

Taye Diggs (Kevin Hill) stars in an action-packed, thrilling re-imagining of the Groundhog Day concept from director Rob Bowman (The X-Files, Reign of Fire) and the writer of After the Sunset. Hopper must find the delicate balance between doing what's important and what's right to get through this killer day and move on to tomorrow.
