Dominicans Protest US Troops at the border
Santo Domingo, May 1 (Prensa Latina) The Unidad del Pueblo (UP) Alliance has called on Dominicans to fight to evict US troops from national territory and protested police brutality against demonstrators in Barahona.
The Police charged Saturday on thousands of Dominicans that shouted ´Yankees Out of Quisqueya,´ spraying tear gas and shooting pellets that wounded 18 people in Barahona.
The protesters denounced the occupation of el Curro, Martin Garcia, el Cortico hills in Paraiso and Polo villages while copters patrol the border with
Haiti and a Navy carrier is stationed in the Caribbean.
"We repudiate police brutality and reaffirm the continuity of our struggle regardless of the repression ordered by the ´boot licking´ Partido de la Liberacion Dominicana (PLD) and President Leonel Fernandez," said protestors.
Seven political organizations making up this progressive alliance urged to organize committees in defense of the homeland until the US military occupants withdraw.
"We will neither allow them to use our national territory as spearhead to attack sister countries like Venezuela and Cuba, and we will fight to keep the Caribbean a peaceful area.
