Bonjour chers compatriotes,
Dagui.

Thanks for your encouranging post concerning "The Haitian Development Fund". I recently read an article in the Editorials/Opinions section of "The Haitian Times", February 20-26 issue, written by journalist Hudes Desarmeaux. In it HD a native of Sain Luis Du Nord, Haiti, describes how a fund raiser in Miamia for natives of that area was able to amass 500K in a short period of time which enabled the inhabitants of that town to pave all of their streets. He also mentioned, that another fund raiser is planned to provide electricity for that town. These are very, very encouraging news in that is shows that not all Haitians in the Diaspora are pessimistic, when it comes to raising funds for Haiti, as it has always been presumed. If we in the Diaspora can get our heads together and develop such a fund raiser that can encompass the whole country, or just concentrate on a village by village development effort, Haiti will definately be better off, in a matter of five years or so. I think that it is very important that our youth living in the U.S. have a source of pride in which they can turn to, because beleive me, it is not easy being Black and Haitian in this country. Haitians are constantly being bombarded by bad news comming from that country, which is often written with zeal, or tinged with vindictiveness, resentment and racism, by the foreign press. Nevertheless, I was encouraged this weekend by visiting "The 5th Annual Haitian students Conferance" held in Washington DC. There, 3rd generation Haitians proved that they still love their country of origin. This is important because as one of the speakers at the conferance mentioned, without them Haiti cannot survive. I am also encouraged that this idea, which has been nurtured by the Diaspora, is slowly sarting to make a headway in to the hearts and minds of patriotic Haitians like yourselves. Therefore, I will continue to work to get out the message as best as I can, until this idea, this concept can finally become reality. Please keep in contact by sharing your suggestions with me. Two heads is always better than one and we need all of the heads availbale, to make this dream possible.
Peace !
