Interestingly, data on ethnicity is rarely collected in Chile. Chile is relatively ethnically homogeneous and has a strong ethnic identity. However, the African presence existed in Chile up to the 19th century. While there is no official classification of Blacks in Chile, you will find racially mixed people with African and Indian blood, what in Chile they call moreno, mulatos and zambos.
So what happened to the African? After African slaves were finally freed, they worked hard, made some money and left the country; they either went back to Africa or to another Latin American country.
