Nemours Jean Baptiste in it's effort to bring originality to Haitian Music and move away from playing cadence, merengues and that latin flavored music played in haiti created " Compas Direct " . By giving Haiti it's own musical genre, he opened the door to the creative flow that today is still alive in group like tabou combo, strings, Zenglen, Zin, Top Vice, etc ( just to name a few)... However, in the Mix something very wrong is taking place and no one seems to take notice. Nemours Music Was Born : " Compas " not Kompa , not Konpa Or Compa; he chose the name to make it original and set his sight on conquering the world. However, I have noticed that a lot of people either to make it easier to pronounce by other cultures or to fit the new found love for a phonetic based language, are constantly disrespecting his choice and are carying on as if they had the right to change and edit his wish to validate their own agenda. I have never seen " Zouk " referred to as " Zook " " Reggae " has not to my knowledge been referred as " regge" and so on.... " Compas " Should Stay Compas Like Nemours Intended, at least out of respect for the dream of a great man who loved his country it's people and cared enough to work hard to make his mark and wanted to leave something Behind so that the generations folowing would have something to build on. The Least we can do is to keep it as he intended, the music has evolved, the subtle changes to the sound and beat is Healthy but the Name should never be touched out of respect and Commitment to a greater cause: Take Haitian Music to the World and Expose our Culture to others without special accomodations and changes to it's identity.

Let's Keep Compas " Compas " as it was given to us. We owe that much to Nemours Jean-Baptiste.
