Rapids Acquire Haitian Midfielder Alexandre Boucicaut as Developmental Player

DENVER, CO (Thursday, September 15, 2005) ? The Colorado Rapids acquired today Haitian midfielder Alexandre Boucicaut from the Chicago Fire in exchange for the Black and Blue's Fourth Round Selection in the 2006 MLS Supplemental Draft.

This selection was acquired by Colorado from FC Dallas in a previous transaction.

Boucicaut (pronounced "BOO-see-KOH") will occupy the Developmental Roster spot left after the team waived midfielder Marcus Sagastume earlier in the day.

How Acquired: Acquired from the Chicago Fire on September 16, 2005, in exchange for the Black and Blue's Fourth Round Selection in the 2006 MLS Supplemental Draft.

One of a growing number of Caribbean players to join the ranks of Major League Soccer, Haitian midfielder Alexandre Boucicaut has become only the third player from the island country to play in America?s top flight soccer league, following on the heels of retired Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Sebastian Vorbe and current teammate Jean Philippe Peguero.

The gifted Boucicaut brings with him tremendous speed to the right side of the attack and a patient style of play well beyond his age.

MLS CAREER HIGHLIGHTS: 2004: After being signed by the Fire as a Discovery Player on 8/16/04, made 5 appearances for the Chicago side, including 1 start, accumulating 164 minutes on the season in his inaugural year in MLS....Made his first start on 10/6 vs. CLB, playing the full 90....Played 20 minutes on 10/2 as a sub vs. CLB...Came in as a sub on 9/4 vs. DC for 3 minutes....Came in a as a sub and played 28 minutes in the Fire's 4-1 loss to DAL on 8/28...Made his CHI and MLS debut on 8/21 at LA, playing 23 minutes as a sub in the 1-1 draw.

NATIONAL TEAM HIGHLIGHTS: The young Boucicaut already possesses plenty of experience representing his country, having played 15 games for the Haiti Under-23 National Team and amassing eight caps with the Senior National Team, highlighted by his goal-scoring effort in Haiti?s 1-1 draw with the U.S. National Team in an international friendly on 3-13-04.....Has scored 12 international goals in his 23 combined appearances with the Haitian U-23 and Senior National Teams? ..Has earned eight caps with the Haitian National Team, and scored eight goals since making his debut?Scored Haiti?s lone goal in the 67th minute of the team?s surprising 1-1 draw with the U.S. National Team in an international friendly on 3-13-04 at the Orange Bowl in Miami? Was named to Haiti?s 2002 CONCACAF Gold Cup squad at the age of 20, but did not see any action in the team?s three games in the tournament, which was played in the United States? Made his debut for the Haitian Senior Team in 2002 in a match against Honduras? Played 15 games for the Haitian U-23 National Team, including three games during CONCACAF qualifying for the 2004 Olympics.

Boucicault is actually the 4th Haitian player in the MLS.

1) Sebastien Vorbe

2) Phillipe Peguero

3) Fabrice Noel

4) Alexandre Boucicault.

I will take this opportunity to mention that the last three Haitian are actively rostered by the Colorado Rapids coached by none other than "The Ex coach of the Haitian National team" Where would our players be without this man ? I'm even more surprised at the way he is going aggressively after the Haitian talents when he was treated not even fairly ( to put it mildly) by the FHF.
