Description:
FIFA U-20 World Cup Canada 2007 Official Emblem unveiled in Toronto.
12.4.06 - FIFA vice-president, chairman of the Organising Committee for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Jack A. Warner and Canadian Soccer Association (CSA) president Andy Sharpe officially closed FIFA?s nine-day venue inspection tour by unveiling the Official Emblem of the FIFA U-20 World Cup Canada 2007 at a media conference in Toronto today (12 April 2006).
Having traversed Canada and inspected stadiums, training sites and hotels in the cities of Victoria, Burnaby, Edmonton, Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto, Mr. Warner expressed his full confidence in the Canadian Soccer Association?s ability to put on a world-class event in the summer of 2007.
?This inspection is just one step in the process of evaluating and finalising the stadiums and infrastructure needed for the competition, but I must say I am very pleased with the professionalism and organisation the FIFA delegation has seen over the course of the last week and a half,? said Mr. Warner. ?I am particularly happy with the strong support for the tournament demonstrated by the many government and city officials we?ve met during this trip. It is our goal for the FIFA U-20 World Cup to leave a lasting legacy for support of the beautiful game in Canada, and with their continued cooperation, FIFA and the CSA will no doubt reach that goal.?
Featuring the world?s top youth teams in a 24-team, 52-match competition, the FIFA U-20 World Cup has proved to be the launching pad for many of the world?s most illustrious players ? e.g. Diego Maradona, Thierry Henry, Luis Figo, Raul and Roberto Carlos to name but a few ? since the inaugural tournament in Tunisia in 1977.
Official Emblem of the FIFA U-20 World Cup Canada 2007
The emblem for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Canada 2007 features the prominent use of Canada?s most visible national symbol ? the maple leaf. According to many historians, the maple leaf began to serve as a Canadian symbol as early as 1700, celebrating Canada?s nature and environment. The maple leaf depicted on the Canadian flag ? and now in the Official Emblem of the FIFA U-20 World Cup ? is Canada?s native sugar maple leaf, perhaps best known for its vibrant autumn foliage.
Worldwide media outlets interested in acquiring a high-resolution version of the Official Emblem for editorial purposes are invited to request it via FIFA?s online service at www.FIFAdigitalarchive.com.
The Official Emblem of the FIFA U-20 World Cup Canada 2007 is the second emblem to be released under the umbrella of FIFA?s new brand architecture, which aims to unify all of the different emblems and logos of world football?s governing body. The main feature of this new branding strategy is a consistent design for all of FIFA?s activities, including competitions and projects such as Goal, Fair Play and the FIFA Quality Concept for footballs and artificial turf. In addition, all FIFA tournaments will be consistently referred to as ?World Cup?.
