NYRed Bulls Under 17's Win New Jersey State Championship. Tardy Scores Two in 3-1 Victory
EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ (MNN) - Red Bull New York added its first trophy of the 2006 season on Sunday when its U-17 team captured the New Jersey State Cup championship. The Red Bulls defeated the defending state champion Ironbound Warriors (Newark) 3-1 in the championship match that was played at Friendship Fields in Bordentown, NJ.
"We are extremely proud of what this group of athletes has been able to accomplish," said Giovanni Savarese, Red Bull New York's Director of Youth Soccer and Player Development. "They have played the game with a great deal of class and professionalism, and this championship is a testament to how hard they have worked."
The Red Bulls were led by two goals from U-17 National Team Member John Tardy and one from Tim Kassel from the victorious Red Bull New York squad.
"This is a tremendous accomplishment as the team defeated a quality side in the Warriors despite missing three starters," said Red Bulls U-17 Head Coach Paul O'Donnell. "The win truly shows the depth and quality of the entire team."
As champions of New Jersey, the U-17's will participate in the Regional tournament in Virginia from June 28 to July 5.
