MLS turn down third offer from Europe Molde F.K. Club (Norway?s) for JPPeguero
New York Red Bulls fans need not worry, Jean Philippe Peguero is not heading to Europe -- at least not right now.
After turning down two other offers from European clubs for the Haitian striker, Major League Soccer nixed a third offer, this from Molde F.K. of Norway?s Tippeligaen, according to several sources. The transfer fee was believed to be in the neighborhood of $800,000, according to Red Bulls coach Mo Johnston.
Johnston said Friday he had spoken to Red Bull New York managing director Marc de Grandpre about extending Peguero's contract, which pays him a reported $70,000 through 2008. And Peguero has expressed a desire to stay in MLS and to continue to play in New York.
"?I?m not looking at other options right now, I?m just focused right now on getting this team on top and getting ready for the playoffs,? he said Friday. ?I do like playing here.
