IN TRANSITION: Bruce Arena won't be back as national coach; Are the Red Bulls next for him?
Bruce Arena won't be back as coach of the U.S. National Team, fueling speculation that he will join the New York Red Bulls.
U.S. Soccer president Sunil Gulati announced on Friday that Arena won't be back. Arena's contract with U.S. Soccer runs through December.
Arena, a native of Franklin Square, L.I., has been linked to the Red Bulls since the U.S. was eliminated from the World Cup on June 22. Arena had been U.S. coach since October, 1998.
If he does join the MLS club, Arena is expected to take on the dual responsibilities of coach and director of soccer operations.
