Jamaica and the host Colombia posted wins over Haiti and Netherlands Antilles, respectively, during the Men?s Under-21 Football Tournament at the 2006 Central American & Caribbean (CAC) Games in Cartagena on Sunday.
Darwin Quintero scored twice, while Fredy Guarin, Jackson Martinez, Dayro Moreno, Harrison Otalvaro and Juan Pablo Pino all added another for Colombia (1-0-0, 3 Points) in the 7:0 victory over the Netherlands Antilles (0-1-0, 0 Points) in the Group A play at the Estadio Pedro de Heredia.
In an earlier encounter on Sunday in Cartagena, two goals from Akeem Priestley led Jamaica (1-0-0, 3 Points) to a 2:1 win over Haiti (0-1-0, 0 Points) in Group C action.
The 2006 CAC Games continue on Monday at the Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Meléndez in Barranquilla, Colombia with Honduras (0-0-0, 0 Points) taking on Barbados (0-1-0, 0 Points) in Group D play at 17:00, while in Group B, Venezuela (0-0-0, 0 Points) faces Cuba (0-1-0, 0 Points) at 19:00.
At the end of the first round on 20 July, the top two from each group will advance to the quarterfinals in Barranquilla and Cartagena on 22 and 23 July.
Each venue will host a semifinal encounter on 26 July, with the losers competing for the bronze medal three days later (29 July) at the Cartagena?s Estadio Pedro de Heredia, while afterwards, the semifinal winners will play for the gold medal.
