It is beleived that this selection pretty much represent the group that will go to the World Cup. Demarkus Beasley, Razov, Wolf, Pablo Mastreoni and Jeff Cunningham are amongst the very good players that were not selected.
U.S. technical director Bruce Arena has called together a primarily European-based side for the USA?s friendly with Germany set for Wednesday 27 March in Rostock. The team will be very similar to the one that took the field for the USA in a 1:0 defeat to Italy on 13 February. The game continues the USA?s preparations for this summer?s FIFA World Cup Korea/Japan.
The only debutant in the side is 22-year old defender Cory Gibbs, presently with FC St. Pauli in Germany. Eight U.S.-based players are a part of the squad, highlighted by the USA?s strike tandem in recent matches of Brian McBride (Columbus Crew) and Clint Mathis (NY-NJ MetroStars), but influential midfielder Claudio Reyna (SUnderland AFC) will miss the match, still hampered by injury.
"We are continuing to search for the right combinations on the field and will get another chance to see our European-based players in this match," said Arena.
