Second-half substitute James Saint-Cyr?s 97th minute golden goal gave a Haiti a 2:1 victory over Dominican Republic on 28 July in Port-au-Prince in the second leg of their preliminary round series in the Caribbean Zone of the FC Under-20 Qualifying tournament. The goal won the series for Haiti 3:2 on aggregate and advanced them to group play.

Saint-Cyr?s winning marker came after the teams had played to their second consecutive 1:1 draw, previously posting the same score in the first leg of their tie on 13 July in Santo Domingo.

After a physical first half that produced opportunities for both sides and three yellow cards but no goals, the teams exploded for three tallies in the match?s final 25 minutes.

Manuel Perez opened the scoring for Dominican Republic in 74th minute, getting his shot past Haiti ?keeper Yves LaPaix. The visitors? joy did not for long as Haiti?s Brunel Fucien drew the home side even just two minutes later, beating a stunned Dominican Republic defence for the equalizer.

The sides continued to look for the series clincher as regular time drew to a close, but neither was able get past the other, setting the stage for Saint-Cyr?s extra time heroics.

Haiti?s win earns them a berth in the Caribbean Group C round-robin tournament, along with Bahamas, St. Kitts & Nevis and hosts Antigua & Barbuda, scheduled for 14-18 August.
